This is an FTDI R232RL breakout to 6-pin JST-GH. It breaks out the RTS/CTS of the chip to support applications that make use of flow control. This increases serial reliability at higher baud rates for mission-critical applications. Includes standard RX/TX LEDs.
The 6-pin JST-GH connector matches the pin-out of the Pixhawk 2.1 TELEMx ports for seamless integration. With weight and reliability constrained UAV systems, this is the perfect choice. This connector and pinout should be future compatible with upcoming Pixhawk flight controller revisions.
The device defaults to obtaining power for the FTDI through USB, with VCC from the JST-GH having no connection. You can break the trace between USB and the center pad of the PWR_SEL jumpers, and solder the center pad to the UART pad to allow power input from there. Only do this in cases where you know the device on the other side of the JST-GH will reliably supply power to the device (5v). This is only typically done in cases where USB VCC is from a noisy/unstable power supply.
The USB/JST-GH are broken out to solder pads for permanent mounting solutions, where Mini USB/JST-GH is not suitable or other non-standard connections are required. In the cases where certain connectors are not desired, choose one of the options above that meet that criteria.
The IO of the device operates at 3.3v.
